Enjoying The Rest Of Your Life - A Strategy for Reducing Stress

Stress.

  • No one wants more and most think they have too much.
  • Plenty of books on how to be "free" of it.
  • It can help speed you physical death.
  • Without some of it we may never accomplish anything.
  • If we can reduce and manage it, we can enjoy and not endure our lives.

Enjoying The Rest Of Your Life - Safeguarding Joy

What do you guard and protect?
Your family?  Reputation?  Baseball card collection?
How about safeguarding your joy?
Remember when you got saved?  Joy moved in.

But then something happened.  And we aren't sure what it was.

I have an idea.  It has do to with a scorecard.

And I will talk about it this Sunday as we continue to unpack the series, "Enjoying The Rest Of Your Life."

Read this chapter to get a head start.

Enjoying The Rest Of Your Life - The Joy Killer - Complaining

A customer was bothering the waiter in a restaurant. First, he asked that the air conditioning be turned up because he was too hot, then he asked for it to be turned down because he was too cold, and so on for about half an hour.

Surprisingly, the waiter was very patient; he walked back and forth and never once got angry. So finally, a second customer asked him why he didn't throw out the pest.

"Oh, I really don't care or mind," said the waiter with a smile. "We don't even have an air conditioner." (insert cheesy laugh)

This week we are continuing talking about "Enjoying the rest of you life" and talking about "The Joy Killer - Complaining."

Enjoying The Rest of Your Life- Our Choices For Change

A Buddhist walks into Braums and buys an ice cream cone with a $100 bill.

 He asks, "Where's my change?"

World Religions major answers, "Change comes from within."

Does change come from within?  From God?  Is change forced upon us?

What would you like to change about yourself?

This Sunday, "Our Choices For Change."

Enjoying The Rest Of Your Life - Reducing Conflict With Others

Conflict.
Does the word conflict, all by itself, increase your pulse?
  • The conflict free life = unrealistic
  • The conflict filled life = undesirable
  • The conflict reduced life = this Sunday's message.

Jesus - Who Do You Say I Am - One Way

What makes something controversial?

The dictionary says, "adjective:  giving rise or likely to give rise to public disagreement."

I am unaware how controversial Jesus' statement was in His day, but I know the public disagreement is causes in our culture today:

John 14:6 (NIV)
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Why does Jesus make such an exclusive, arrogant, intolerant claim?

Is He right?  Is He fair?

Jesus: Who Do You Say I Am? - My Teacher

Do believe in gravity?
I have confidence that you and I both believe gravity exists.
We have nodded our head in agreement when we see an object fall from the sky and a helium balloon rise.
However, if you saw me jump out of a plane without a parachute, expecting to either fly or land softly, what would you say about my "belief."
This Sunday we continue the Jesus, "Who Do You Say I Am?" with the message, "My Teacher."
Perhaps in our focus on the Godhood of Jesus we have missed a bit of the importance of His total humanity.

Jesus: Who Do You Say I Am? - In Our Shoes

I have owned many pairs of shoes.
I have worn shoes that look like some of these famous shoes (see Maradona).
Yet, I have never walked a step in "their shoes."
Has anyone ever walked a step in your shoes?  With your pressures, temptations, concerns, and worries.
This Sunday we continue the Jesus, "Who Do You Say I Am?" with the message, "In Our Shoes."
Perhaps in our focus on the Godhood of Jesus we have missed a bit of the importance of His total humanity.

Jesus: Who Do You Say I Am? - Did He Think He Was Who We Think He Is?

Who did Jesus claim to be?
The list of people who have claimed to be Jesus grows each year. It's even worse in the Holy Lands.
We know their claims to be false, the product of an unbalanced mind, yet unfortunately, some get a rather large following.
What about the claims of Jesus?
Did he really claim to be God?  Or is that something we have labeled him with.

Jesus: Who Do You Say I Am? - The Cross, The Tomb, And The Eyewitnesses

The Cross, the Tomb, and the Eyewitnesses
I love court dramas.
Give me some old school Perry Mason or today's NCIS and I am in TV heaven.  Sometimes I wonder what the court case about the resurrection of Jesus would look like.
  • Is the account of Jesus' resurrection trustworthy?
  • Would it hold up in a court of law?
  • Wouldn't that be great TV?
This Sunday we continue the NEW series, "Jesus: Who Do You Say I Am?" with the message, "The Cross, The Tomb and the Witnesses".

Jesus: Who Do You Say I Am? - Are Jesus' Biographies Trustworthy?

What do you trust?
Do you trust . . .
  • the bathroom scale?
  • your bank statement?
  • Google?
  • your speedometer?
  • the police officer's radar gun?
  • the biographies of Jesus?
Different levels of verification are required for varying typers of trust.
This Sunday we continue the NEW series, "Jesus: Who Do You Say I Am?" with the message, "Are Jesus' Biographies Trustworthy?"

Jesus: Who Do You Say I Am?

Who is Jesus?
Generally, we like being asked our opinion.
Unless we will be held accountable to it.
This Sunday, I am excited to be starting the new series, "Jesus: Who Do You Say I Am?"

Basics: Validation

What is the best seat you have ever had?

Did your best seat match your ticket, or did you find a way to sneak down to a better seat?
I love sneaking down to better seats, but I never seem to get comfortable in that seat, I keep waiting for someone to ask me, "Sir, may I see your ticket?"
Not having a ticket for that seat, I can not justify my presence there, and get booted to the nosebleed seats.

The longer I live, the more I feel that way about my life.
That I need to justify it.  That I can validate my use of the time, space, and resources I take up trip around the sun.
Am I good enough?  Do I matter?
This will conclude the series "Basics".

Basics: Standing Strong In Salvation

If you are saved, and you sin, then what?
Do you need to get "saved" again?  What am I "saved" from anyway?
What about when I just feel really bad, like I've let God down, for the 1,000 time?  What do I do then?
I don't "feel" saved.  What should I do?
The Enemy loves it when we have confusion over situations like this.
Those questions and more, this Sunday, as the series "Basics" continues, with the message, "Standing Strong in Salvation."
